ANALYSIS OF THE P320 MANUAL SAFETY
This video will provide you with the most in-depth and complete breakdown of the P320 manual safety assembly. I show you how the parts work and interact with the rest of the P320 as well as provide detailed 3D models and animations to help clarify the inner mechanics. This video also runs torture tests on the P320 in order to show you a lesser known additional safety measure built-in to the P320 manual safety system... Enjoy!

Much appreciated!
I have an apex trigger, but I want a lighter spring, I hate the 3lb for this, 2lb would be great. who would you find reputable?
I haven’t tried it with that sort of configuration so I’m not sure.
The 3D model is freaking amazing! It really helped somebody like me that thinks and pictures and sees things in their mind mechanically. It'd be cool if there was a place on your website to go and play around with it. Thanks for all your hard work
That’s an awesome idea. I’ll see if there’s a way to do something like that on the Sig Mechanics website.
Could you please tell me where you removed the material off of the sear ? I’m thinking the inside but not 100% sure Thank you
On the side where the trigger bar would meet the sear.
Thank you
YALL SHOULD DO THIS FREE FOR RECALLS. Yall lost the lawsuit and the p320 has been proven to discharge by itself. PEOPLE CAN DIE. Fix your problems or be boycotted by millions of customers
Hi, I just want to clarify that this UA-cam channel is not run by or endorsed by Sig Sauer. I operate this channel for fun and education purposes. The MSAFET kit is my own invention that I made and is not affiliated by Sig Sauer in any way.
Are you going to release the custom manual safeties that you sent to skips guns?
Yes, however that prototype was not complete and changes are going to be made to improve it. I don’t have an ETA for the lever though.
Are you taking the material off the sear from the side that makes contact with the trigger bar or the opposing side?
On the side, where the trigger bar contacts the sear.
@@SIGMECHANICS your the shit man 🤙 The gun community needs more of you.
Awesome as always. Not sure why i didn’t see this when it dropped
Thank you!
@@SIGMECHANICS just placed an order from your website. Not a huge order but it’s about time i put my money where my comments are lol.
@ryanburbridge lol, I got it, it’ll go out in a few hours. Thanks for your support!!
That was awesome! Well done! ✌️
Just a thought, but wouldn’t taking material off of the bottom of the safety lever on the striker prevent early disengagement of the striker safety? I believe in the video you do mention that it goes substantially higher than what is needed to disengage the striker. Please correct me if I’m wrong.
No you’re correct. There are some geometric things to consider but both and either/or those options would work!
Great video!! I have done extensive trigger work on 320s. And I must say after watching this video I am now less inclined to do any work through an adjustable trigger. I’m looking forward to your solution.
You cleared a lot, I was very concerned.
Why does the sig m18 trigger feels spongy
That’s a very broad question, it would be your springs need replacing or simply it’s not your preferred geometry. Have you tried anything yet to find out why you think it feels spongy?
@@SIGMECHANICS I just bought the pistol. I have not shot it yet but compared to my Beretta 92FS and my Springfield X mod2 the triggers feel so different I do realize it’s a striker fire, but I didn’t think it was so different.
To summarize: Don't fuck with your trigger.
Sig is such a joke of a company.
Why do you think that?
@@SIGMECHANICS They treat firearms manufacturing as a vanity. Like as if its all just for fun and to make money. Firearms are one of the most serious objects in existence, up there with bombs. Literally playing with peoples lives. Yet they consistently manufacture firearms with defective designs and pretend like its not a big deal. This is the same company that put the P320 in a cardboard box and called it commemorative.
Great series I appreciate it
I want to use your kit on my new AXG Carry. I've read through the comments and learned that it CAN be done but I have a question. Does your grip cutting module work on the AXG, because a) you state that the aluminum is thinner that the polymer, and in some replies you state the grips must be cut by hand. Is that just the side grips or is that the aluminum grip frame? Any hints for my AXG? Thank you kindly.
Hey! Sure I can help clarify. The kit is not designed for AXG specifically because the AXG has a thinner sidewall. Many people have still used the kit to make the cut because it will still indicate the exact position of the cut out, however, there are a few things you need to know First, You will need to find a way to secure the grip cutting template onto the AXG, this usually means you will have to be extra careful and have a thumb or finger on top of the template while you cut. Second, you would only be able to cut the aluminum frame. to do that you will need to remove the side panels. The side panels will need to be cut independently and without a template. This means that after you cut the aluminum grip, you will need to freehand cut the side panels.
Any idea when these kits will be back in stock?
Approx 1 week.
Thank you, sir! I cannot tell you how many times I’ve taken my P3 20 apart and after all these times, I finally happened to me! Thanks again👍🏼
The official P320 rite of passage!
Absolute best video on this specific task.
Hello ! It’s been a while since I’ve been on your channel but I have taken my 320 back out again since I am about to try it suppressed and I’m going to try a lighter spring rate. Just curious if you understand why the slide jumps when the trigger is pulled if you’re looking through the red dot it is very obvious. Thanks again for what you do on this channel….Edit… Just saw your video where you explained the situation. I will look into it thank you.
Hey, Edmond, I was able to get one of your older Msafety conversion kits from Ranier Arms down here in USA. Just wanted to share one gripe with you. The steel bit was not even hard enough to touch my fire control group. Which is good news for people like me who are concerned about a sheet metal gun, and I was able to do the entire job with the carbide side cutter. Just letting you know a point that may be due to me having the newer updated fcu frame, or perhaps an outdated conversion kit!! Still worth every penny I paid for it! And used your videos to help me get my FCU apart and back together. Invaluable resource and a saint, you are!! Thank you, thank you!! I have an Msafe X5 now!! And that x5 drives tacks now that I out a Danger Close Armament barrel in it!! You can see the drastic change that barrel made on our channel @TimberFallingCouple Thanks again so much!! I'll be doing a video on your conversion kit soon!! Everything works perfect! Excellent product and excellent business model!
Yes, I would love to covert my 320 XTen into a manual safety. Does sig make the kit.
It actually works with Sig factory parts, here is the full how-to video (the project launched not too long ago). I should note that the kit is currently out of stock with new stock set to arrive in about a week with a few upgrades. So make sure to you subscribe to the “notify me” on the Sig Mechanics webstore to get an email when they’re back. Notice how its basically just cops who have ND's 🤔
Great in depth video thank you Do you recommend getting the manual safety installed by a professional? Sorry I’m a noob and want a manual safety
You absolutely should see a pro if you’re truly not sure or capable. Realistically, it’s super easy and I would say 99% of people have done this modification do it themselves with time and a UA-cam video.
@@SIGMECHANICS Thanks! keep up the good work
Quick question Edmond what do you think about the Armory Craft Bull Barrel for the P320 X5 Legion
Regrettably, I haven’t had a chance to try one yet. Aesthetically, I think they look great though!
@@SIGMECHANICS thank you for your answer I was going to try one, I need to remove the LCI that my CA unit has to make it work I just wanted to make sure that there was not a big no no on them. Thank you for your videos by the way I have learned so much about my Sig P320 this will help me take better care of this beauty . Thanks again
Absolutely amazing detailed information. Thank you sooo much for posting this.
Thank you!
So this is us more effective than Armory Crafts trigger/spring kit?
I can’t say it is because I haven’t compared the two setups unfortunately.
@@SIGMECHANICS thanks
This proves what a wonderful design on these guns and it’s crazy that they took an original hammer DA design 250 and ducked taped it into this.
I rather liked the hammer too.
To confirm, I can install the safety on a 45 right? After doing the conversion of course
Correct. No issues doing so on a .45, currently the only P320 model this does not work with is the X-Ten “Comp”.
@@SIGMECHANICS thank you Sir
I am still looking for a low profile safety lever aftermarket solution. Love this video BTW.
I have 3 320's. Your video proves the gun is well designed and safe
Great video. Thanks for sharing
Thank you!
My slide moves forward when the trigger is pulled, as if instead of locking on the takedown lever, it's hanging up on the striker.
That would be hard to determine without seeing it, perhaps remove the slide cap and see if you can use a small metal bar to retain the striker and then try to replicate the issue.
@@SIGMECHANICS Great idea! I'll return with an update.
@SIGMECHANICS Without the slide cap, it doesn't do it.
Will this work for the P320 Spectre Comp blackout?
Yes it would. The only model it does not work with is the X-Ten Comp (due to the wider slide). Otherwise you’re good to go!
Thank you so much!
Impressive video.
Thank you!
Incredible breakdown. Nice job.
Thank you!
Something isn't making sense. People are now saying that SIG is claiming these misfires are caused by a malfunctioning striker safety spring. When someone has their gun go off in their holster, and they send it to SIG they just replace the spring. What do you make of that?
It’s definitely not the reset spring causing this, a few years ago Sig considered the reset spring a redundant part and discontinued using it. They noted that because the striker will automatically reset when the slide blows back aft are firing, then the reset spring does not do anything. They still install them and they still put them into new firearms but it looks like they’re just phasing out the spring or getting rid of old stock. Some new P320s have the spring and others don’t have it at all from the factory.
@SIGMECHANICS In your opinion, what do you think is going on with these misfires? Do you think the manual safety will do anything to keep the gun from going off in the holster?
For everything I’ve done and tested… in every instance the trigger is being pulled unintentionally. There are too many safeties built in that would have to simultaneously fail otherwise. Most of the issues seem to stem from how there really, truly, was a drop fire problem in 2017 with the heavy triggers, and with that history it seems there are people are finding new ways to worry others. (Bad news gets clicks).
@@SIGMECHANICS I don't know the ins and outs of the P320 like you do. I did end up buying one of your manual safety conversion kits and installed it and it works perfectly (been working for a good long time now) 🫡. But I would be lying if I don't say I still am a little concerned in the back of my mind.
Great presentation, thank you so much.
Thank you!
I had the same issue with my p365 SAS after installing an aftermarket trigger and spring set. It is confusing on an SAS because it has a takedown button or screw instead of a lever.
SAS is definitely more annoying, I can only imagine the headache people get if they experience a problem that makes the takedown hard to turn (which is a common issue), and then not having the leverage that the lever provides.
Great video, thanks. You mentioned nothing about cleaning or lubricating. Obviously if I’m going to take it down like this I’m going to clean everything while it’s apart. What parts and pieces need lube or does it need to stay dry? Thanks again for your time making this great video
This video was strictly and only about taking it apart, I will do another video for cleaning and maintenance.
Very well done video! I just did this conversion on my P320 X-Carry with your kit and it was very straightforward to follow along.
Thank you!
Great video
I can finally feel safe carrying this damn thing! Appreciate your work and videos!
I'm genuinely curious, why would I want to add a safety? What are the pros? I have been a big Glock guy for years and p320's are new to me. I love them tbh. I have 3 and none have a safety. I do notice that this conversion is popular though.
There is no real pro or con, within the Sig community the aspect of modularity is huge, I believe that since it’s an upgrade that makes it so that you now have a new option to modify the gun, makes this very popular. Once you do this upgrade you can then swap back and forth between safety or no safety which I believe is a good way to not have to buy another FCU (just to have that option). It really ultimately comes to a personal preference when it comes to personal use/protection. Those with 1911 backgrounds love a safety, those with Glock experience may not even ever use it.
Man hopefully they’re back in stock soon
Production is done so they will be here very soon!
@@SIGMECHANICS sweet just got a p320 and want a manual safety before i carry it
DO NOT EVER REMOVE THE TRIGGER HOUSING BECAUSE THERE MAY BE LOOSE PARTS !
Can you share the particular problem you’ve had in the past?
@@SIGMECHANICS my sig 365 in 380 slide i took off the grip frame to clean, when i tried to put it back on the slide refused, it was being stopped....i then did something stupid, i removed the trigger housing and in doing so i rendered the take down lever to spin free because the safety lever fell out...I later learned i did not need to remove the trigger housing to solve this problem....i tried in vain to fit the safety lever back but could not....I took the weapon back to wear i purchased it and they were able to correct my problem...i will never remove that trigger housing again....i was successful in installing the manual safety but i. could not figure out this problem, The dealer solved my problem......i have since found the cause and remedy to solve the problem of a slide refusing to fit properly back on the grip frame....I did not have to remove the trigger housing to solve my problem.....What i learned is the safety lever that is fitted to the take down lever is not securely fitted, so to avoid any more loose parts from falling off i will never again remove the trigger housing....What caused my problem was two fold, my fault and a very bad design for the trigger housing parts to remain securely fitted to the trigger housing.......
Very helpful thank you
